2005 Team Tennis Series (TTS)Tournament  Results

The 2005-2006 WACTA TTS final tournament was held at four Season Tennis Club on 2/25/06. After 5 hours of competition, Racqueteers and Crazy Horses won the title of A and B leagues, respectively. Four players, YiWei Xiong, GuangYuanHu, Li Wang, Wei Xiao won all their matches in TTS tournaments and joined the 100% winning players club. The winner teams and their captains are listed below. WACTA 2006 Junior Program Application

Thanks to continuing support from the Rho Psi Foundation Inc, WACTA is offering the 2006 Junior Intermediate Programs for the eighth consecutive year.  Intermediate players are those who can serve, keep accurate scores, and play out complete matches. Like last year, WACTA will offer financial support for Chinese American youth who go to WACTA designated tennis summer camp. Please see details for qualification and try-out dates.  Note that the application deadline for the junior program is March 22, 2006, a total of 36 positions are being considered.

2006 Annual Banquet and Meeting, March 11, 2006

WACTA 2006 annual banquet and Board election will be held on Saturday, March 11 at the New Fortune Restaurant in Gaithersburg, Maryland. We will elect president and board of directors (BOD) for the next one-year term starting April 1, 2006. WATCA belongs to all members. All BOD members and administrative staffs are volunteers. We need enthusiastic members to volunteer your service. If you are interested in serving WACTA as a BOD member, please send an e-mail to president@wacta.org or contact any current BOD member by February 28.
In addition to enjoying delicious dinner and sharing fond memories of the past year, we have prepared fantastic entertainment as well. The night features Washington area famous Deejay K.C. Chang,  Iron-Ball Karaoke Tournament at 4.0 and 4.5 level (note that the ratings are determined by singing skills, judged by audience), belly dance that you have never seen before (guaranteed), not to mention the traditional prize drawing, and lots and lots of fun! I sincerely urge you to prepare to have a good time and please bring your families and friends along to celebrate with us.  If you are interested in challenging the Iron-Ball championship, please make sure you bring your own music for the karaoke machine (CD, DVD, LD), or call Ms. Shih-Chun Lien (301)424-7845 for details.

WACTA 2005 Men's Doubles 3.5/4.5+ Registration

2005 WACTA Men’s Doubles tournament will be held on December 10 for level 3.5 and 4.5+. The tournament runs from 7 pm to 12 midnight at the Four Seasons Tennis Club in Fairfax, Virginia.  The tournament is sponsored by Ms. Yen Chan. Please complete one registration per team. The tournament is open to members only. Please fill out the registration form and e-mail to Mrs. I-Fei Chang, tournament director, at men3545@wacta.org. If you don't receive a confirmation within two days, please call Mrs. I-Fei Chang at 703-435-3625. Registration deadline is December 3 and registration fee, $15 per person, is paid when you check in at the tournament. Dinner boxes will be served.

2005 Team Tennis Series (TTS)Tournament                      Date: 12/17/05, 1/14/06, 2/25/06

WACTA Team Tennis Series will be debuted in the winter of 2005.  This event is a social-competition series event similar to the most popular WACTA ladder tournaments.  The purpose is to create another series events for the winter but the emphasis is on team competition instead of individual pairs. The TTS includes three indoor tournaments held at the Four Seasons Tennis Club on the following dates:  Dec. 17th, Jan. 14th, and Feb. 25th (the final).  If you enjoy social and competition tennis, please read the rules and join the event.

Due to the nature of a team, WACTA decides to open and close registration early so a team can be built before the first match. The tournament is open to members only. Registration deadline is Oct. 30, 2005. Team captains will be recruited by Tournament Director, Mr. Chris Lu. Registered players will be assigned evenly to all 8 teams. The team rosters will then be announced and players will be notified by your captain. WACTA encourages all teams to have practice/team building sessions before and during the tournaments. Members can specify your desired partner in the registration; we will do our best to make it possible for you to play together. Registered players can also check on team status periodically.

If you don't receive a confirmation within two days, please call Chris @ (301) 435-3170 during the day time.  The tournament fee is paid to your designated captain, who deliver it to WACTA officials as the team checks in on the match date. Chinese American Youth Tennis Program Calls for Funding Application

Over many years, WACTA is honored to be selected to assist Rho-Psi Foundation, Inc. to manage the Chinese American Youth Tennis Funding.  The purpose of this funding is to introduce and teach tennis to Chinese youth who are new to the sport, and thus promote this fine sport in Chinese American societies. This year is no exception, the funding is now opened to applications from any registered Chinese school in the Greater Washington DC area.  Please see details if interested.

WACTA 2005 Team Tennis was a successful tournament. After more than four hours of competition, Team Fire won the gold medal. The team is to keep the trophy one more year. 2005 Shaw & Shaw Ladder Tournament Results

2005 Shaw & Shaw Ladder Tournament, sponsored by Shaw & Shaw Law Office, was successfully completed on August 13, 2005. The most improved team award is earned by Alex Chang and Michael Chen; The most challenged team award is grabbed by Charles and Daniel Jean; The most challenging team award is rightfully given to Yar-Ping and Jessica Chen, who are also the 2004 winner of the same award. Asian Festiival, July 30, 2005

Free admission to Asian Festival to be held on 7/30/2005, the Saturday.  The Festival features Asian food, arts & crafts, live music, films and movies, etc.  Most interestingly, it features the largest USTA prize money tournament, we can watch women’s pro tennis players from around the world competing.  For details please check on www.asianfestivaldc.com.

Results of WACTA sponsored Chinese Team in Asian Tournament, May 21th, 2005

The Second Annual Asian Games was held on a beautiful Saturday on May 21st.  The sun was shining all day.  There were plenty of food and drinks and plenty of great company from each of the six participating teams:  Vietnam, Thailand, WACTA Chinese, Philippines, India, and Korea.  The Chinese team was sponsored by WACTA and organized by Shelley Xu.  All players on the WACTA team have Chinese ancestry or have a spouse who has Chinese ancestry.  The competition was neck and neck.  At the end of the day, the WACTA Chinese  team won third place, behind Vietnam and Thailand. The members of the WACTA Chinese team were:  Hyojoon Heo, Vickie Ly-Heo, Michelle Lee, Yiwei Xiong, Tina Ding, John Lin, John Hsu, Eric Zhang, David Zhang, Shenbao Qiu, Jameson Lee, Adam Wong, Tony Yeh, Tony Chan, Yi-Cheng Wang, Xiao Wei, and Sirapiragasam Sanj.  There were many close games.

WACTA sponsored Asian Tournament, May 21th, 2005

WACTA is proudly sponsoring a team to play in the upcoming Asian Tournament, please participate in cheering our team and have fun watching first class tennis matches among Asian teams. The Tournament will be held in Jefferson District Park at 7900 Lee Highway, Falls Church, Virginia.  Tournament date is May 21, 2005, from 8AM to 5PM. The Asian Tournament this year fields teams of Chinese, Indian, Korean, Filipino, Thai, and Vienamese.  The Chinese team is captained by our own Shelley Xu. The Asian Tournament features the following competitions:

WACTA 2005 Summer Tennis/Family Camp - June 30th through July 3rd, 2005

WACTA and CCACC are joining force to hold this year’s Summer Tennis/Family Camp which has been scheduled from Thursday, June 30th through Sunday, July 3rd at the Salisbury State University, Maryland.  The University is approximately 120 miles from Washington, DC, and about 30 miles from Ocean City and Rehoboth beach/outlet shopping mall.  There are many amenities at the University campus, such as 10 outdoor tennis courts, basketball courts, a baseball diamond, volleyball courts, indoor tennis courts, and a swimming pool. Camp participants will enjoy many activities like tennis clinic, tennis tournament, golf, dance party, movies, bingo, outlet mall shopping, beach, etc..  The camp is open for registration now.  Register before 5/15/2005 can enjoy discount price, and the registration deadline is 5/31/2005. Please check out the details including the registration form.  Space is limited; it would serve your best interest to register as soon as possible.

WACTA 2005 Shaw and Shaw Ladder Tournament, May 14th, 2005

Thanks to the continuous support of Ms. Elaine Shaw, the 2005 Shaw & Shaw Ladder Event sponsored by the Law Office of Shaw and Shaw once again promises a summer-long fun and excitement. This event kicks off on May 14th, 2005.  The Tournament will take the first 40 teams (all doubles, all skill levels, men, women, or mixed) registered, assign initial ranking to each team, and divide teams into 5 divisions.   There will be four indoor tournaments held at the Four Seasons Tennis Club on the following dates:  May 14th, June 11th, July 16th, and August 13th.  Dinner box for each player will be provided at the indoor tournament. In between the indoor tournaments, every team is encouraged to challenge other teams and accept as many challenges from other teams as possible.  Please check out the details. regarding the tournament rules.

Registration fee is $50.00 per person. Please use the registration form and register as soon as possible by e-mailing the completed form to shawladder@wacta.org. The registration fee is due when players arrive at the first indoor tournament on May 14th. The deadline for registration is April 30th, 2005.  A registration of two people as a team has priority over separate registrations of two individuals who need an assigned partner.  The tournament is limited to WACTA members only.  If you are currently not a WACTA member and wish to participate, you are welcome to become a WACTA member. 2005 Senior and Junior Doubles, April 16, 2005

The WACTA 2005 Senior and Junior tournaments are sponsored by Rho Phi Foundation. They are to be held on Saturday, April 16, 2005 at the Four Seasons Tennis Club. Both events are open to members only. Please note that the player’s age limit for Senior tournament has changed: 55 for male players and 50 for female players. Seats are first-come, first-served. 2005 Spring Social Tennis, April 9, 2005

Spring social tennis will be held on Saturday, April 9 from 7 p.m. until midnight at the Four Seasons Tennis Club, VA. This event is open to both members and non-members. Formats include scheduled and non-scheduled time slots. You are welcome to invite non-member friends to play and enjoy this social event. Please fill out the registration form and e-mail to Mr. Tsung-Lai Hsu, social tennis director, at social@wacta.org. Registration deadline is April 5, 2005. Registration fee is $15 per person and paid when you check in. Dinner box will be served.  Spaces are limited, please register early.

WACTA 2005 annual meeting was held on March 12. There were about 210 members, guests and sponsors enjoyed an evening of delicious food, dancing and singing. This is WACTA’s 14th anniversary. Hsu.  Mr. Kan Chang gladly accepts the appointment as Executive Secretary.

2005 Vision Cup Women’s Doubles tournament will be held on February 26 from 7 p.m. to midnight at the Four Seasons Tennis Club in Fairfax, Virginia. The tournament is sponsored by Dr. Robert Chu, ophthalmologist and WACTA member.  The tournament is open to members only. Winter social tennis will be held on Saturday, January 15 from 7 p.m. until midnight at the Four Seasons Tennis Club, VA. This event is open to both members and non-members. Formats include scheduled and non-scheduled time slots. You are welcome to invite non-member friends to play and enjoy this social event. Please fill out the registration form and e-mail to Mr. Robert Chen, social tennis director, at social@wacta.org. Registration deadline is January 11, 2004. Registration fee, $15 per person and paid when you check in. Dinner box will be served.  Spaces are limited, please register early.

 Court 9 and 10 can be reserved by players who register as group of four and wish to play among themselves. Group players will have at least of two one-hour court time. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Chen (703)912-9634.

If your membership information need to be updated, please send an e-mail including phone number to Mr. Iming Chen at webmaster@wacta.org  by January 11. Your current WACTA membership information is available on the 2004 Yearbook and the web site’s Member Only section. You can add a new member, delete a current member, or update existing member information under your ID.
