| WACTA 2006-2007 CapStar Team Tennis Series (TTS) Results |
The 2006-2007 WACTA CapStar TTS final tournament was held at four Season Tennis Club on 2/24/07. After 5 hours of competition, Racqueteers and Wintergreen won the title of A and B leagues, respectively. Players:

| 2007 Annual Banquet and Meeting March 10, 2007 |
Our annual election/banquet is fast approaching. This year it will be held on 3/10 Saturday 6:00pm at New Fortune Chinese Restaurant. We need you to mark your calendar and get ready to celebrate this annual ball with all tennis lovers and friends. Last year’s banquet was a spectacular event with many entertaining performance. It is almost outrageous to say that we are planning to top that! But we are actually planning on it! We cordially invite you to be there to witness this yourself. The ticket price is $20 each and can be purchased from Board of Directors/staff now. If you wish to reserve a whole table, please also let us know ASAP. For the president and Board of Directors election, if you are interested or know of anyone who is, please send an email to president@wacta.org to indicate that. We will include those candidates in the election procedure, when we get all the information. Please send in by the nomination deadline Feb. 23. WACTA will need more new bloods to help us usher in another exciting year!

Rating Committee is accepting rating change request and recommendation. You may request your rating change or recommend other member’s. Detail information is in the reguest form. Please fill out the form and send it to president@wacta.org. The new deadline is January 26, 2007.

| 2006 Membership Information Update for the Yearbook 2007 By: January 14, 2007 |
If your membership information need to be updated, please send an e-mail including phone number to Mr. Guan-Hwa Chen at webmaster@wacta.org by January 14, 2007. Your current WACTA membership information is available on the 2006 Yearbook and the web site’s Member Only section. You can add a new member, delete a current member, or update existing member information under your ID. If your or your child’s Chinese name is not in the database, you may want to add them to the database. WACTA announces tournament results including trophy winners’ names on local Chinese newspapers. It would be helpful, if winners’ Chinese names are correct and available to WACTA news writers.

2006 WACTA Men’s Doubles 3.5 and 4.5+ Tournament will be held on December 9, 2006. The tournament runs from 7 pm to 12 midnight at the Four Seasons Tennis Club in Fairfax, Virginia. This tournament is sponsored by Mr. Steven Ting of Evergreen Properties. Please complete one registration per team. The tournament is open to members only. | Request For Proposal - Chinese American Youth Tennis Program Fall Semester, 2006 |
Rho-Psi Foundation, Inc. provides funding to the Washington Area Chinese School for introducing and teaching tennis to Chinese youth who are new to the sport of tennis. Rho-Psi Foundation, Inc. asks WACTA working together to solicit interested Chinese schools in the Greater Washington DC areas to submit applications for funding. The proposal should be post marked no later than November 15, 2006 and mailed to Huei-hsiung Yang, 2287 Glenmore Terrace, Rockville, Maryland 20850. WACTA 2006 3.0/4.0 Men’s Doubles tournament, sponsored by TECRO and OCAC, was successfully completed on September 23 at the Four Seasons Tennis Club. WACTA president Chin-Ho Lien expressed special thanks to the representatives from TECRO and OCAC and also to the Tournament Director Mrs. I-Fei Chang and all other supporting staff. | WACTA Held Farewell Luncheon for Director Yen |
WACTA held a farewell luncheon on August 12, 2006 for Director Andrew Yen at Far East Chinese Restaurant. Director Yen, an outstanding tennis player of his own, has been the director for Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO) Culture Center the last couple years and he is leaving the Washington DC area to assume a new position in Taipei. TECRO Culture Center and Overseas Chinese Affairs Commission (OCAC), under the guidance of Director Yen, has provided sponsorship for WACTA events for many years. During the luncheon, WACTA president, Chin-Ho Lien, presented Director Yen with a plaque appreciating Director Yen’s long time support and wishing him all the best in the future endeavors. Many WACTA board directors, former presidents, and old tennis friends were also present to bid farewell and take pictures with him. |

| WACTA 2006 Shaw & Shaw Ladder Tournament Results |
2006 Shaw & Shaw Ladder Tournament, sponsored by Shaw & Shaw Law Office, was successfully completed on August 12, 2006. After 3 months of exciting and fun tennis, this event has offered our members great opportunity to meet new players, to have family quality time and to improve tennis skills. Elaine Shaw, the long time sponsor from Shaw & Shaw Law Office, congratulated trophy winners and thanked WACTA staff for the hard work. Elaine gave a brief yet moving speech thanking the blessing she received for being able to sponsor this event. The trophy winners are the following – Here are the final rankings. The most improved team award is earned by Hwang Tommy and Zhang Frank ; the team accepted most challenge matches is Hwang Tommy and Zhang Frank ; the award for the team initiated most challenge matches goes to Zhan Kevin and Song Cathy . WACTA appreciated Tournament Director, TL Hsu for his dedication and tremendous effort in making this event a great success. All players and staff also received a very nice polo shirt as a souvenir. | WACTA 2006 Summer Tennis/Family Camp Reports | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
WACTA Summer Family/Tennis Camp was successfully completed on June 25. Over 90 WACTA campers, joined by another 80+ CCACC campers, enjoyed the stay in Salisbury State University. Faced with inclement weather, campers exhibited resilient capability to complete tennis clinic sessions, to compete zealously in tournament, and to enjoy various activities the camp has to offer. WACTA officials thank campers for being extremely patient with the inconvenience the weather has brought on us. Special thanks go to Camp Director Roger Hwang and his wife Sandy; Camp Tournament Director Jack Lin, Clinic Director Huei-Hsiung Yang; Shelley Xu for pre-camp planning and registration process; and Chia-Chou Chang for organizing golf outings. | WACTA 2006 Annual Banquet and Election |
WACTA Annual Banquet and Election was successfully completed on 3/11/06 at New Fortune Restaurant. The banquet was attended by over 250 members and guests. According to many attendees, this was the best annual banquet that WACTA had ever held. In addition to WACTA official’s elections, this year’s program exhibited an exciting Karaoke Singing and Dancing team competition between Dragon and Tiger teams. Over 40 performers participated in this delightful and sometimes hilarious contest. The program was highlighted by a sensational belly dancing performed by a group of 4 strong male tennis players. WACTA appreciated all the performers for their efforts in making this event such a success. Special thanks go to team captains, Shelley Xu and James Hsu; DJ Chi Chang; special guest performers, Stanley Kao, Ming and Jackson Yang; Belly Dancers, Kevin Zhan, Chi Chang, Mike Chen and Robert Chen; and Master of Ceremony Shih-Chun Lien. The new WACTA president Chin-Ho Lien and executive secretary Guan-Hwa Eric Chen invite all members and guests to come back next year for an even more entertaining night and participate more in the regular tournaments. The new Directors of Board for 2006 are T.L. Hsu, Roger Hwang, Shing-Bong Chen, Jian Liu, Wen-Bing Shiu, Eric Chen and Chin-Ho Lien. | WACTA 2006 Summer Tennis/Family Camp June 22nd through June 25th, 2006 |
| WACTA and CCACC are joining
force to hold this year’s Summer Tennis/Family Camp which has been scheduled
from Thursday, June 22nd through Sunday, Junely 25th at the Salisbury State University, Maryland. The University is
approximately 120 miles from Washington, DC, and about 30 miles from Ocean
City and Rehoboth beach/outlet shopping mall. There are many amenities at
the University campus, such as 12 outdoor tennis courts, basketball courts,
a baseball diamond, volleyball courts, indoor tennis courts, and a swimming
pool. Camp participants will enjoy many activities like tennis clinic,
tennis tournament, golf, dance party, movies, bingo, outlet mall shopping,
beach, etc.. The camp is open for registration now. Register before
5/21/2006 can enjoy discount price, and the registration deadline is
5/31/2005. In addition, Martin Chang offers to organize three group outings. Please check out the short program, long program including the registration form. Space is limited; it would
serve your best interest to register as soon as possible.

| WACTA 2006 Shaw and Shaw Ladder Tournament May 13, 2006 |
| Thanks to the continuous support of Ms. Elaine Shaw, the 2006 Shaw & Shaw Ladder Event sponsored by the Law Office of Shaw and Shaw once again promises a summer-long fun and excitement. This event kicks off on May 13th, 2006. The Tournament will take the maximum 40 teams (all doubles, all 3.0+ skill levels , men, women, or mixed) registered, assign initial ranking to each team, and divide teams into 5 divisions. There will be four indoor tournaments held at the Four Seasons Tennis Club on the following dates: May 13th, June 10th, July 15th, and August 12th. Dinner box for each player will be provided at the indoor tournament. In between the indoor tournaments, every team is encouraged to challenge other teams and accept as many challenges from other teams as possible. Please check out the details regarding the tournament rules. Registration fee is $50.00 per person. Please use the registration form and register as soon as possible by e-mailing the completed form to shawladder@wacta.org. WACTA is proudly sponsoring a team to play in the upcoming Third Annual Asian Game Tournament, please participate in cheering our team and have fun watching first class tennis matches among Asian teams. The Tournament will be held in Four Seasons Tennis Club, Fair Fax, Virginia. Tournament date is May 6, 2006.The Asian Tournament this year fields teams of Chinese, Indian, Korean, Filipino, Thai, and Vienamese. | 2006 WACTA Senior Tournament & Spring Social Tennis Event Date: April 15, 2006 |
| WACTA 2006 Senior Doubles Tournaments will be held on Saturday, April 15th from 7 p.m. to midnight at the Four Seasons Tennis Club, VA. This event is open to WACTA members only, Non-members may join as members at the event. Please download the attached registration form to sign up for this event,; fill it out with all required information and email to senior@wacta.org (please, e-mail only). Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. We will try to match a partner if you cannot find one.The Senior Doubles tournament plans to have two divisions determined by the level of play skill. Female players will have 0.7 handicap against male players, the exact format is to be decided depends on the participants. All participating female players must be older than 50 (born before March 31st, 1956); and a qualified male player must be over 55(born before March 31st, 1951). In addition, spring social tennis will be held on the same day. This event is open to both members and non-members. Formats include scheduled and non-scheduled time slots. | WACTA 2006 Junior Program Application | |||
| Thanks to continuing support from the Rho Psi Foundation Inc, WACTA is offering the 2006 Junior Intermediate Programs for the eighth consecutive year. Intermediate players are those who can serve, keep accurate scores, and play out complete matches. Like last year, WACTA will offer financial support for Chinese American youth who go to WACTA designated tennis summer camp. Please see details for qualification and try-out dates. Note that the application deadline for the junior program is March 22, 2006, a total of 36 positions are being considered.

WACTA 2006 annual banquet and Board election will be held on Saturday, March 11 at the New Fortune Restaurant in Gaithersburg, Maryland. We will elect president and board of directors (BOD) for the next one-year term starting April 1, 2006. WATCA belongs to all members. All BOD members and administrative staffs are volunteers. We need enthusiastic members to volunteer your service. If you are interested in serving WACTA as a BOD member, please send an e-mail to president@wacta.org or contact any current BOD member by February 28. In addition to enjoying delicious dinner and sharing fond memories of the past year, we have prepared fantastic entertainment as well. The night features Washington area famous Deejay K.C. Chang, Iron-Ball Karaoke Tournament at 4.0 and 4.5 level (note that the ratings are determined by singing skills, judged by audience), belly dance that you have never seen before (guaranteed), not to mention the traditional prize drawing, and lots and lots of fun! I sincerely urge you to prepare to have a good time and please bring your families and friends along to celebrate with us.
