WACTA 2008 Summer Camp, a traditional family event, was held in Salisbury University, MD, from June 19 to June 22. Camp activities included two sessions of 8-hour tennis clinic, taught by 3 tennis professionals at Salisbury University, and a two-night tennis tournament divided in 3 groups. The weather was very cooperative, except a short storm at the tournament final night. This year we had the greatest participation rate for the tennis clinic. The camp was very successful and a ton of fun!  Thanks very much for Tina Kao, the camp director, and Li-ping Hwang, and all the volunteers. Just to name a few fun things besides tennis: golf, fishing, mussels collecting and feasting, cakes, movie, fine dining and wine. We can't wait to camp again next year! This year's Mixed Doubles event, proudly sponsored by TECRO & OCAC, is coming up right around the corner. We had very positive feedbacks for  the new combined-level format we used last year, so we will adopt the same format for this year. There will be 4 groups, combined-level of 6.5, 7.5, 8.0 and 8.5+. We believe this should bring more flexibility and dynamics into the competition.

The tournament is open to members only. If you like to compete but don't have a partner, you can register as an individual. The Tournament Director, Mr. Guan-Hwa Chen, will try to find you a partner, who can be another member from the pool of individual registration. A registration of two people as a team has priority over separate registrations of two individuals who need an assigned partner.

Qualifications and rules are described in the tournament rules. To register, please submit your registration by going to the following URL - http://www.wacta.org/registration/formmix.html . You will receive a confirmation email immediately. If you do not receive the confirmation email, please contact tournament director Mr. Guan-Hwa Chen by email.

Registration deadline is May 24, 2008 and registration fee, $15 per person, is due when you check in the tournament on 5/31/2007. WACTA reserves the right to cancel or combine any groups due to insufficient registrations. Dinner boxes will be served. Additional dinner boxes, can be reserved at $5 each. Once again, the 2008 WACTA Summer Ladder, will be proudly sponsored by Mr. John Lin, president of CapStar Commercial Realty. It will continue its previous name as the CapStar Summer Ladder. 

We will kick off CapStar Summer Ladder on Saturday, May 10th, 2008, and follow by two in-door competitions on Jun 14th, Jul 19th; and conclude with a final on Aug 9th. This event will take a maximum of 40 registered teams (all doubles, all 3.0+ skill levels, men, women, or mixed),  which will be assigned with initial ranking and divided into 5 divisions. There will be four indoor tournaments held at the Four Seasons Tennis Club on above mentioned dates.  Dinner boxes for players will be provided at each indoor tournament. In between the indoor tournaments, every team is encouraged to challenge other teams and accept as many challenges from other teams as possible.  Please check here for the tournament rules.

Registration fee is $60.00 per person. Please use the registration form and register as soon as possible by emailing the completed form to capstarladder@wacta.org. The $60 registration fee is due when players arrive at the first indoor tournament on May 10th. WACTA is once again hosting the annual family summer camp from Thursday, June 19th  through Sunday, June 22nd  at the Salisbury State University, Maryland.  This family camp will offer tennis clinic as well as many other activities for adults and children.  The location of this family camp is located approximately 120 miles from Washington, DC, and about 30 miles from Ocean City and Rehoboth Beach/outlet shopping mall. 

The WACTA Tennis Summer Camp has traditionally been a great family tennis event filled with fun and excitement. There are many amenities at the university campus: 10 outdoor tennis courts, basketball courts, a baseball diamond, volleyball courts, indoor tennis courts, and a swimming pool. Camp participants will enjoy many activities such as tennis clinic, tennis tournament, golf, dance party, movies, outlet mall shopping, beach activities, etc.  The camp will open for registration in April.  There’s a discount for early registration (before 4/30/2007), and the registration deadline is 5/31/2007. We are holding WACTA 2008 Women's Doubles /Senior Doubles Tournament on April 12. Participants from last few years WACTA welcome you to come back to compete this exciting tournament. Once again, our annual election/banquet is fast approaching. This year  it will be held on 3/15 Saturday 6:00pm at New Fortune Chinese  Restaurant. We need you to mark your calendar and get ready to 
celebrate this annual ball with all tennis lovers and friends. After a  long year of tennis competition, it is now time to lay back a little bit and mingle with rest of this great tennis community. Besides Annual Election, there will be exciting entertaining programs for everyone to enjoy. The ticket price is $25 each and can be purchased from Board of Directors/staff now. If you wish to reserve a whole table, please also let us know ASAP.

For the president and Board of Directors election, if you are interested or know of anyone who is, please send an email to president@wacta.org to indicate that. We will include those candidates in the election procedure, when we get all the information. Please send in by the nomination deadline Feb. 23. WACTA will need more new bloods to help us usher in another exciting year!
