2008 WACTA Intermediate Youth Programs

Thanks to continuing financial support from the Rho Psi Foundation Inc, WACTA is offering the 2008 Intermediate Youth Programs for the eleven consecutive years.  Intermediate players are those who can serve, keep accurate scores, and play out complete matches. The objective of the program is to enhance their ability to play competitive tennis in school teams as well as USTA sponsored tournaments.

The Nike Tennis Camp at Salisbury University is located on Maryland's Eastern Shore and will be directed by Randy Halfpap. For the Nike Camp, WACTA will register all the qualified players in the session held between July 6 and July 11, 2008. The estimated cost for the Nike Tennis Camp is $775. We are negotiating with camp director for a group rate. A student will receive $100 scholarship from Rho Psi Foundation Inc. and WACTA when he or she completes the training program (For details check www.ussportscamps.com).

Try out information and the application form will be posted on WACTA website. The application deadline for the Intermediate Program is April 4, 2008, and total of 36 positions are being considered for Nike. The program is designed for intermediate players who are Chinese Americans, born on January 1, 1993 or later but at least 10 years old. If a player who was born before January 1, 1993 and is younger than 18 years old, and likes to join Nike Camp, he/she can enjoy the group rate but will not receive financial support. Selection criteria will be based on skill level and potential determined during a mandatory tryout for the players registered for Nike Camp.  The tryout will be held on April 26, 2008 at a site to be announced in the WACTA website.  Most likely it will be held in the Robert Froster Intermediate School. If you have any questions, please contact Huei-Hsiung Yang (O) 301-944-0169 (teluhgwy@comcast.net). If you are interested, please checkwww.wacta.org for updates.

After the camper is selected, the parent of the camper will need to fill out the registration form, which is posted in www.ussportscamps.com, and send to Huei-Hsiung Yang (teluhgwy@comcast.net) with a payment to Nike Camp. All the registration forms from campers will be mailed to Nike Camp.

In addition to the Iintermediate Program, Rho Psi foundation Inc. also provides financial support to the beginner and advanced programs (For details check www.wacta.org):

Each selected school will receive at least $200.

The advanced program awards scholarship to advanced Chinese youth tennis players, to be selected by WACTA from those who demonstrated outstanding competition results in playing USTA-sanctioned tournaments.
